Theme: “This is My Family”

Submit an artwork that symbolizes traditional values that are important to you and your family.

 

Overview

Participants* will submit a high quality photo of their work to Northern Academy. A panel of professional artists will select the winners based on overall presentation, relation to the competition theme, aesthetic value, composition and design.

*Contestants must have a valid US mailing address.

Summer Scholarship Awards

Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony held at Northern Academy, and their artwork will be displayed on campus for three months. Top contest winners will receive Summer scholarships to support their arts education at Northern Summer Camp:

 

Division 1 – Ages 10 to 13:

  • First place award: $2,000 Scholarship

  • Second place award: $1,000 Scholarship

  • Third Place: $500 Scholarship

  • Honorable mention: Certificate of Recognition

 

Division 2 – Ages 14 to 17:

  • First place award: $2,000 Scholarship

  • Second place award: $1,000 Scholarship

  • Third Place: $500 Scholarship

  • Honorable mention: Certificate of Recognition

 

Submission Deadline

11:00pm EST on March 21, 2022

 

Announcement of Winners

Winners will be announced on April 5, 2022 on the Northern Academy website, and contacted via phone and email.

Winning works will be displayed at Northern’s campus between April 5, 2022 to August 31, 2022.

  • Upload a high quality digital scan of your artwork (300ppi resolution)

 • Complete the Online Application and Student Release Form

  • Submit your application by 11:00pm EST March 21, 2022.

 

Accepted Mediums

Accepted mediums for two-dimensional artwork are as follows:

  • Paintings: oil, acrylic paints, watercolor, gouache, tempera, Chinese painting.

  • Drawings: colored pencil, graphite, ink, pastel, charcoal (charcoal and pastel drawings should be fixed.)

Minimum dimensions: 8” x 11” minimum

 

Submission Rules

The rules and regulations included here apply to the 2022 Northern Art Competition:

  • The contest is open to students between the ages of 10 and 17.

  • Each entry should visually relate to the Competition Theme.

  • Each entry should be an original two-dimensional artwork of Western or Eastern style, with the exception of reproductions of any classical realist artwork before the 19th Century.

  • Copies of other artists’ works or paintings, from other artists’ photographs or from published materials will not be accepted. Any plagiarized work will be immediately disqualified.

  • Artwork should be completed within the last two years, and must not have won any previous prize or award in any other art competition.

 

Submission Content

  • No copies of other artists’ works or paintings from other artists’ photographs or from published material will be allowed, with the exception of reproductions of any classical realist artwork before the 19th Century. Any plagiarized work will be immediately disqualified.

  • Artwork must adhere to the policy of the Northern Academy Art Competition.

  • While it is not the intent of the competition committee to censor any artwork, Northern does wish to avoid artwork that is potentially inappropriate for display within the school environment, such as images containing sensationalistic, politically controversial, or gruesome content.
